botox versus filler
what's the difference?

This is a very commonly asked question in the aesthetic world, so let’s break it down. Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it inhibits the contraction of treated muscles. This is most commonly used cosmetically to smooth the look of wrinkles. It can also be used to selectively atrophy muscles to slim the face shape, add upper lip fullness, relax a gummy smile, and many more. Botox can also be used medically to treat migraines, TMJ pain, cervical dystonia, etc.

The most commonly used fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers. HA is produced in the body, it draws water to the area to naturally smooth and plum the skin. Our bodies’ production of HA decreases as we age, leading to the unwanted signs of aging. Using these products, we can smooth and plum the skin, we can add volume to cheekbones, give the desired full lip look, snatch the jawline, and many more. The type of HA filler we use is based on the area we want to treat. If we want to mimic bone in the cheeks, we use a firmer filler that will give us a lot of lift. If we want to plump the lips, we use a softer HA filler.

So to wrap this up, botox is a neuromodulator that reduces muscle contraction, and filler is a hyaluronic acid-based product that smooths, plumps, and fills targeted areas.
